Smartphones connect us with the world in just a few taps of the finger.  We can pull up the latest information on world events, on our family and friends and almost anything else in just a few seconds.

Mobile application developers have leveraged this access to information and their own creative chops to build thousands of apps aimed at easing the pain of job seekers and business professionals.

We really like five of them.

Here are Silverman McGovern’s picks for the five must-have, can’t-miss mobile apps for serious job seekers.

Resume Builder Pro

Edit your resume right from your smartphone and email it as a PDF attachment to anyone you’d like. While the app does cost around $5, the convenience of on-the-go resume editing and the ability to apply to jobs from your phone makes the small expense worthwhile.

Why we like this app: We meet with job seekers all the time. Often, we suggest minor resume edits and formatting changes. The convenience of Resume Builder Pro allows job seekers to put that advice to use in real time.

CamCard Free

Turn that business card into a smartphone contact with one quick picture. CamCard Free takes a photo of your business cards, pulls out the relevant contact info and stores it as a contact in your phone. You can then add notes, set reminders and reach out to individuals you’ve met.

Why we like this app: We often return from networking events and job fairs with a whole mess of business cards. Even one hour later it can be difficult to connect a card in our pile back to the original interaction. We love the idea of snapping a quick picture, writing a note or two and removing the headaches.

Switch

Tinder for your job search. Switch allows users to browse job openings, swiping right to apply for ones that catch their eye. On the other side, hiring leaders are browsing applicant profiles, swiping right for people they think will be a good fit. Once you are “matched” you both chat and decide on the next steps.

Why we like this app: Well, it’s a lot of fun. It’s also nice to know your qualifications are being reviewed by a real person, who you will get to speak with directly if you’re deemed a fit. As the app grows and job offerings expand, this app will become a must-have for job seekers.

All of the power of LinkedIn, right in your hand. LinkedIn is the world’s largest professional network. You want to be able to check notifications, reach out to your network and browse open jobs while you’re on the go. The LinkedIn mobile app is a no-brainer for the serious job seeker.

Why we like this app: LinkedIn is a great resource for all phases of a job search. We particularly like the app for quick browsing of company updates and employee profiles before a big interview.

Indeed Job Search App

Indeed has emerged as a top-dog of career sites. They have a wide selection of open positions, well-tailored job alerts and make the application process easy. Their app allows users to browse jobs on the go and apply directly from their phone, hassle-free.

Why we like this app: We’ve used Indeed to find great talent. We like their job alerts and their large candidate population. If you decide to go with Indeed, keep an eye on your email alerts – you’ll probably see a few Silverman McGovern jobs in there.
